Middletown Area School District was well represented in the winner’s circle at recent regional science competitions.
The MAMS Science Olympiad team competed against 14 other middle school teams
and participated in 23 individual events at the Central PA Science Olympiad Competition, placing fourth overall. The team now moves on to the PA State Science Olympiad Competition at Penn State Altoona later this month.

The following students also earned individual awards at the Olympiad:

  • Jillian Hess, Elise Freeman, and Casey Sharp: 4th place, Experimental Design
  • Casey Sharp and Elise Freeman: 3rd place, Flight
  • Jack Doran and Seth Thomas: 4th place, Fossils
  • Jillian Hess and Mason Mariano: 3rd place, Road Scholar
  • Jillian Hess and Daniel Orris: 2nd place, Roller Coaster
  • Daniel Orris and Jack Doran: 4th place, Tower
  • Xavier Murphy and Reece Young: 2nd place, Wheeled Vehicle

MAMS students also received honors at the 2024 Future City Competition. Future City is a hands-on cross-curricular educational program that brings STEM to life for students in grades 6 through 8. Using the Engineering Design Process (EDP) and project management skills, students showcase their solutions to a citywide sustainability issue. This year’s challenge asked students to build a 100% electrically powered city with energy generated from sources to keep citizens and the environment healthy and safe. MAMS 7th Grade Team was awarded “Best Transportation System” for their city Terralectrica and MAMS 8th Grade Team was awarded “Best Research” for their city La Renova.
