bus imageThe Middletown Area School District wants to ensure that each student's transportation to and from school is a safe and pleasant experience. Safe and efficient transportation of every student is the primary goal of our Transportation Department. Eligibility for bus transportation is based upon established criteria such as distance to the school, road types, traffic patterns, geographical area, and other contributing factors which affect the assignment of bus routes and stops.

Bus transportation in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is NOT mandatory, although the District has extended this privilege to all eligible students living within the established boundaries of the Boroughs of Middletown and Royalton and Lower Swatara Township. The District is committed to the equitable treatment of all eligible students. Serious acts of misconduct, including but not limited to any bullying behavior, that may be detrimental to the health, safety or well-being of other individuals may result in the immediate suspension of riding privileges for indefinite periods of time.

Bus Route/Bus Stop Assignments
Students, for whom transportation is provided, shall be assigned to a specific bus route and stop. Students are NOT permitted to transfer to a different bus route and/or stop without the prior approval of the MASD Transportation Department. To request a bus route or bus stop change, a parent/guardian must submit a "Bus Route Change Request Form" to the MASD Transportation Department. A request may be made at any time during the year. Change Request Forms can be found at any District or school office or under Documents & Forms on the right side of this page. The MASD Transportation Department will contact the requestor after the review of a change request which will generally take effect within 48 hours after receipt of the request.

The determination of each change request will be reviewed by the MASD Transportation Department and will be evaluated on the following criteria:

1. An existing bus route operates to and from the student's assigned school
2. The bus route does not have to be changed or extended
3. The bus stop exists on the bus route (a new bus stop will not be created)
4. The passenger capacity on the vehicle will not exceed the legal limits for the vehicle
5. The change is requested for a specific and reasonable period of time
6. The above criteria will be superseded, if reassignment is mandated by local, state or federal authorities.

An alternate pick up and/or drop off location for your student will be considered by MASD in order to accommodate daycare or babysitter arrangements. Transportation to and/or from an alternate location other than the student's home, such as a daycare or babysitter, may be permitted under normal circumstances. By requesting an alternate pick up and/or drop off location, your student may be reassigned to a different school building within the District. The following guidelines exist regarding these changes:
