Middletown, PA is known for its hometown heritage and community pride. So it was no surprise that in 1990 a group of residents had a desire to rally around the Middletown Area School District to provide support for various programs which receive inadequate funding. The Blue & Gold Club was launched to support MASD athletic programs by providing equipment and supplies based on specific needs. In 2013, Blue & Gold decided to broaden its scope of assistance by also including the MAHS Performing Arts Department. Since its launch, Blue & Gold has raised over $392,000 for MASD.
Each month, the Blue & Gold Club meets with MAHS staff to discover how they can best partner with the school and provide for its students. Blue & Gold has funded items and projects such as instruments, uniforms, awards, mats, field repairs, bleacher repairs, sponsorships, training equipment and risers. MAHS's Life Fitness Center exists today due to the vision of Blue & Gold. The investment of funds and volunteers resulted in a facility that has benefited MAHS and the community.
The Blue & Gold Club funds these purchases through club membership fees and various fundraisers throughout the year such as a Winter Dinner/Dance, Annual Raffle and the Buy-A-Brick Project. Participants can purchase an engraved brick in someone's honor or memory. The brick is then added to the wall at War Memorial Field. Bricks can be purchased using this form: Buy-A-Brick Order Form. Middletown Area High School TV production students produced the video below showcasing War Memorial Field and the Memorial Brick Wall.
