Hello Middletown Community,
Being appointed to the position of superintendent on August 28th, 2021, is certainly an honor and I am excited and looking forward to serving the teachers, staff, students, administration, parents, and the community of the Middletown Area School District. A proud 1990 graduate of the school district and working in many capacities throughout my career has allowed me to gain and build a tremendous amount of knowledge and connections to the stakeholders that make up the Middletown Area School District. I started my career as a high school social studies teacher in a neighboring school district and was lucky enough to make my way back to Middletown accepting the position as an 8th grade social studies teacher at Feaser Middle School. After a few years in the classroom, I then was hired to be the principal at Fink Elementary School for nine years and was later transferred to Kunkel Elementary School, as the principal, for five years. After spending fourteen years as an elementary school principal, I was promoted to the position of assistant to the superintendent where I served five years. In addition to working on the educational side of the school district, I also spent time coaching track and field, girls’ soccer, and field hockey.
Working in the District for so many years, in many different capacities, has afforded me the opportunity to build strong bonds and relationships with students, staff, and the community since 1996. In addition, building those relationships has prepared me with the knowledge, skills and insights to help grow and expand our school district to the next level. I am committed to doing what is best for our students and staff and look forward to making that statement a reality. How can we make that statement a reality? It first begins by realizing that Middletown is a special place that exemplifies many different qualities and characteristics. Some of those qualities can be identified with the following statements: close-knit community, passionate, family friendly, inclusive, town pride, continued commitment from the school district to provide supports and a high level of academics, community centered events and strong long-standing traditions, sports and fine arts enthusiasts, athletics, band, chorus, and school sponsored activities play a big part in the community, involved citizens, strong sense of community and traditions to name a few. We know that strong community values equate to high expectations for strong schools. That is why the District is committed toward providing the necessary resources to help support Every Student, Every Day. We all share the same goal each day, which is to make our schools great. For that to become a reality, we must work together to create the best possible environment for our students to learn and grow to ensure they become the best versions of themselves.
I have served the Middletown Area School District for over 27 years. I am proud to be a graduate of this District, I am proud to be a Blue Raider, and I am overwhelmingly proud to have the opportunity to lead the school district into the future.
With Raider Pride,
Dr. Chelton Hunter
