MASD is proud to celebrate Rashi Patel, Casey Sharp, and Zoe Handwerk for receiving National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing (AiC) awards. The recognitions were from the NCWIT AiC Central Pennsylvania Affiliate, which honors high school students for their computing-related achievements and interests.
Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, persistence, and future plans.
Senior Rashi Patel was recognized with the Aspirations in Computing High School Award. She has participated in the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair since middle school, earning four first-place and two second-place titles, including one this spring. Her projects have included statistically analyzing the genomic landscapes of sarcomas, a detrimental soft tissue/bone cancer, and creating a Java program that analyzed the risk factors of lung cancer. She plans to go to college for computer engineering and pursue a career in biomedical engineering.
Senior Zoe Handwerk received Honorable Mention for the Aspirations in Computing High School Award and is interested in pursuing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering, hoping to bridge the gap between policymaking and scientific innovation. She has been an advocate for systematic change for both societal functioning and the regulation and promotion of technological advancements.
Freshman Casey Sharp received an Aspirations in Computing Rising Star recognition. She is an award-winning member of the MAHS Science Olympiad team who hopes to pursue a career in robotics or engineering.
Congratulations to Rashi, Zoe, and Casey for continuing to pursue excellence and be innovators in the science and technology fields. MASD would also like to thank gifted education teacher Mr. Trevor Davis for inspiring the next generation of scientists.
