Middletown Area School District is proud to partner with the Hershey Rotary Club to honor a female and male Student of the Month from Middletown Area High School.
The students are nominated by school administrators who consider a student's academic standing and his or her commitment to the Rotary motto, "Service Above Self." Each recipient receives a certificate of honor from the Hershey Rotary Club, and awardees are also invited to a Club luncheon meeting, where they are asked to make brief remarks about their accomplishments, their passion for service-related activities, and their plans for the future.
Parents or other guests of the awardees are also invited to attend the luncheon.
MAHS Students of the Month also select a teacher of influence, and both are recognized by the Middletown Area School District Board of Directors. Students are presented with a certificate at a school board meeting, and a video highlighting the students' achievements is shown.
March - Emma Cleland and Chasen Yospa
Emma Cleland, daughter of Skip and Kelly Cleland, is a distinguished honor roll student and leader within Middletown Area High School. She has been a class officer all four years of high school, and is a member of numerous clubs and activities, including National Honor Society, Link Crew, Mini-THON, and Key Club. She is also a four-year member of the basketball team, leading the Lady Raiders to numerous playoff appearances. Her Teacher of Influence is Mr. Scott Morrow. Chasen Yospa is the son of Leonard and Jennifer Yospa. He is the Class of 2026 Historian, has achieved Distinguished Honor Roll status, and is a member of National Honor Society. Chasen is also involved in many school clubs and activities, including FBLA, Link Crew, and Mini-THON. He is also a four-year member of the soccer and tennis teams. February - Rashi Patel and Michael Swartz
Rashi Patel is the daughter of Dimpleben and Piyushkumar Patel, and an active member of the Middletown Area High School student body. She is a distinguished honor roll student, has been named an AP Scholar With Distinction, and ranks in the top ten of her class. Her activities include being a member of the tennis team, Link Crew, Vice President of Key Club, Treasurer of National Honor Society, and President of FBLA. She also serves as band president. Michael Swartz is the son of Kerry Whipple-Swartz and Michael Swartz and is ranked in the top ten percent of his class. Throughout high school, he has maintained Distinguished Honor Roll status, is a member of National Honor Society, and has been named a PRIDE student of the month. Michael is also a member of the varsity baseball team and will continue the sport at the collegiate level. His Teacher of Influence is Mr. Lynn Williams. January - Gabrielle Harvey and Kyle Kinsey
Gabrielle Harvey is the daughter of Eric and Rebecca Harvey and is a distinguished honor roll student and school leader. She is the Class of 2026 Treasurer, vice president of National Honor Society, Key Club Historian, and a member of Mini-THON, Link Crew and Student Council. She is also a four-year member of the volleyball team and volunteers for youth sports and her church. Her Teacher of Influence is Mr. Phil Boehmer. Kyle Kinsey is the son of Andy and Sarah Kinsey and is a distinguished honor roll student who has been named an AP Scholar with Distinction. He is the Class of 2026 Secretary as well as a member of National Honor Society, Link Crew, Key Club, Mini-THON, Science Olympiad, and FBLA. December - Rachel Gatesman and Brayden Blockus
Rachel Gatesman is the daughter of Eric and Stephanie Gatesman. She is an honor roll student who is a member of the National Honor Society, and is involved with Key Club, Link Crew, and is the high school chorus president. She is a talented performer and choreographer, and has had roles in numerous high school musicals. Her Teacher of Influence is Ms. Kristen Zlogar. Brayden Blockus is the son of Kristen Blockus. He is an honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society, and a committed volunteer to the District’s Raider Packs program. November - Zoe Handwerk and Cooper Johnson
Zoe Handwerk is the daughter of Lisa Handwerk and Brandon Handwerk. She is an honors student who has been named a College Board AP Scholar with Distinction. Zoe is an active member of the student body and holds leadership positions with Key Club, Youth and Government, and band and choir. She has also had roles in school plays and musicals. Cooper Johnson is the son of Shawna Johnson and James Johnson. He is an honors student who is an integral part of the high school morning announcement team. October - Ella Sheaffer and Eyassu Yosedik
Ella Sheaffer is the daughter of Sara and Robert Sheaffer. She is a talented artist who has been showcased in the annual MASD Art Show. She is also a member of the tennis and softball teams.
