Excitement is brewing in the halls of MAHS with the recent opening of Raider Roast, a student-run, full-service coffee shop. The shop is located near the school’s

cafeteria and features a variety of items including cold brews and iced coffees, as well as packaged gummies, animal crackers, and chips. All items are less than $1.
Numerous schools in the area have similar coffee shops and Raider Roast is a way for all students to work collaboratively to use their diverse skills and talents to reach a common goal. The shop is also a way for students to gain meaningful work-related experience. Freshman Chase Etnoyer, Darren Jones, and Angelo Ramos, along with sophomores Howard Aparece, Mia Crognale and Misa McCoy, all students in Ms. Becca Reed’s life skills class, are the shop’s baristas. They take on day-to-day business operations, including stocking and inventory, taking customer orders, processing transactions, and of course, crafting the coffee drinks. Seniors Paige Bollinger, Lilly Carper, Ozzie Davis, Adriana and Brianna Gonzalez, and Shawn Mueller, along with junior Riley Nye, assist with daily operations as part of the high school’s workforce development internship program. Senior Tyson Bomberger, an MASD graphic design intern, came up with the shop's marketing materials, including the logo, signage, aprons, and hats.
Raider Roast is open to students and staff periods two and six, Monday through Thursday. As part of the high school’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, teachers can distribute coupons for free menu items to students who exhibit Raider PRIDE. Pictured to the right is freshman Chase Etnoyer who takes an order from senior Hayden Herneisey.
Raider PRIDE earns students free items at Raider Roast, but it is also the shop’s bottom-line. Thank you to MAHS Principal Mr. Dave Frey, Ms. Reed, and Mr. Carson Book, MASD transition coordinator for your Perseverance to get Raider Roast up and running, and to MAHS students who show Respect to customers, have Integrity and Discipline in their work, and strive for Excellence every shift!
