National Engineering Week

Students Get Hands-On Science Lesson From Experts
Posted on 03/10/2025
Sixth grade students at Middletown Area Middle School (MAMS) got a real charge out of science class during National Engineers Week when experts from Phoenix Contact visited Mr. Justin Smith and Mr. Mike Dupes’ science classes to lead hands-on lessons that make science fun. Experiments included a hair-raising lesson on electrostatics with a Van de Graaff generator and some friendly class competition racing cookie tins filled with magnets to demonstrate speed and weight distribution.

Phoenix Contact has visited MAMS every National Engineers Week since 2007. The engineers said they hope to inspire young people to consider careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

MASD is grateful to our community partners, like Phoenix Contact, who play a role in our vision for all students to be equipped with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
