Middle School Celebrates Constitution Day
Middletown Area Middle School (MAMS) held its annual Constitution Day event on September 17, and social studies students in grades six through eight put into practice lessons learned about American flag etiquette, including how to raise it, fold it, and properly dispose of it. Students also participated in a solemn flag retirement ceremony.
MAMS Social Studies teacher Mr. Ken Britcher said the Constitution Day event has been taking place for 20 years, and each year, seventh and eighth grade students partner to teach sixth graders. Mr. Britcher is proud that students who come through MAMS leave with the knowledge of flag etiquette and hopefully, a renewed sense of respect for the Stars and Stripes.
MAMS students began the school year learning about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and on Constitution Day even had the chance to be ‘signers’ of a document, just like our Founding Fathers did in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787.
MAMS Constitution Day was featured on ABC 27 News as part of the station's Hometown Hero segment.
