Middletown Area High School freshmen, sophomores and juniors had the opportunity to explore career fields as part of the school’s annual career expo. More than 100 various career fields were represented at the event by nearly 60 different local companies and organizations. Careers represented included law enforcement, marketing and communications, healthcare, and engineering, just to name a few.
While students were not expected to visit all exhibitors, Mr. Adam Shaffer, MAHS career and workforce coordinator, said students were tasked to meet with at least four businesses in their chosen career pathway or focus of study throughout high school. A
Pathway is a broad grouping of careers that share similar characteristics and whose employment requirements call for many common interests, strengths and competencies. The five career pathways at Middletown Area High School are Arts & Communications; Business, Finance & Information Technology; Engineering & Industrial Technology; Human Services; and Science & Health.
Mr. Shaffer added each grade level had specific goals as they met with professionals. The goal for juniors was to find an internship, co-op opportunity or be part of the work experience program. Sophomores were tasked to find a business partner or company to visit and shadow their junior year. Finally, the objective for freshmen was to continue to explore the various MAHS Pathways so they could make a Pathway selection at the start of their sophomore year.
MASD would like to thank all the professionals who took time out of their day to talk with and inspire our high school students! If your business or organization is interested in being a part of the 2026 career expo, please contact Mr. Shaffer,
