The students at Reid worked on a unique reading challenge during the month of March. For every book they read at home or school, they could add a body segment to a caterpillar that was “crawling” its way around the school. The caterpillar was also used to solve math problems. To add to the caterpillar theme, each classroom was given real caterpillars to watch as they developed into butterflies.
The reading challenge culminated on March 30 with Camp Reid-A-Lot which was a fun-filled day of visiting learning stations around the school, including special guests who read stories around the “campfire” and a Recycled Art Show. Families were even invited to join the fun by attending the final evening event to see the progress of the reading caterpillar, observe the butterflies, and to participate in the learning activities with their students. Everyone had a blast at Camp Reid-A-Lot!
