Here are a few facts about the MASD School Board and school boards in Pennsylvania:
» According to the Pennsylvania School Board Association (PSBA), 4,500 school directors serve Pennsylvania’s 500 public school districts. All boards have nine members.
» Of MASD’s nine school directors, eight are Middletown Area High School alumni.
» School directors are elected locally; however, the state constitution delegates to them the responsibility to administer the school system as agents of the General Assembly.
» School directors are key decision-makers on issues such as school safety and security, budgeting, policy, hiring, and textbooks.
» According to PSBA, 17 percent of Pennsylvania school directors have more than 10 years of experience as of 2022. Current MASD school directors have more than 38 years of combined experience and service.
