MASD students showcase Raider Pride in many ways. For ten fifth graders from Kunkel Elementary, their pride will be displayed on the walls of the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, bringing joy to staff, patients, and families.
This winter, hospital representatives invited students from across the state to participate in a project called Art for Kids by Kids. The project theme was Pennsylvania Nature, and 96 student artworks would be selected for display outside patient rooms. Kunkel Elementary Guidance Counselor Mrs. Anna Smith saw the call for this unique opportunity and encouraged all fifth graders at Kunkel to use their artistic talents to bring cheer to children who stay at the hospital and show kindness to the community through their art.
A total of 19 students submitted artwork, and in early March, Mrs. Smith received the exciting news that ten students had their pieces chosen for display.
Pictured above are fifth graders Zuri Leonard, Penelope Koenecke, Dylilah Finegan, Kenley Fahnestock, Lillian Hershberger, Kyleah Champ, Madelynn Shaver, Kennedy Damron, Zaida Andrade, and Eliza Hoover, all of whom will have their art displayed at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
All students who submitted artwork received a certificate of thanks, and those whose artwork was selected received a certificate of recognition and will receive a photo of their artwork displayed in the hospital.
MASD is grateful for dedicated staff like Mrs. Smith, who inspires our students to use their talents to serve others. We are incredibly proud of the student artists whose artwork serves not only as decoration but also as a message of hope, friendship, and support for children who need it most.
