Rashi Patel is very familiar with placing first at the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair (CASEF). The MAHS junior has been competing at the event since seventh grade and has taken the top prize every year since, with the exception of a second place finish in eighth grade.
The 2025 CASEF, one of six regional fairs in the state where young scientists showcase solutions to life’s greatest challenges, was held last month at Messiah University. Rashi’s project was titled “PAIR-LC: Program for Analysis of Influential Risk Factors For Lung Cancer,” where she developed a program that analyzed the risk factors for lung cancer. Her knowledge and accomplishments at past Fairs were noticed by Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and Rashi was awarded the school’s Science and Technology Scholar Award, which would cover a portion of tuition at the school. Rashi is in the MAHS Engineering and Industrial Technology Pathway and although she hasn’t decided where she will continue her education, she plans to study biomedical engineering.
