Athletes of the Month

SARA DINTIMAN, Class of 2022, has led the team in batting averages, hits, on base percentage, slugging percentage, doubles, and RBIs. Sara has been a four-year starter for the softball team and captain her last two years. Sara’s knowledge of the game is like having another coach on the field. Sara is also the Valedictorian of the Class of 2022. We are going to miss her strong leadership, drive, and outstanding attitude next year.

~ Coach Mike Thomas

MAX DUPES, Class of 2024, ended the season hitting .384, including six Doubles and 16 RBIs. He also pitched 25.1 innings from the mound. He was a big reason the team qualified for Districts, and he was named a first team Mid Penn Capital Division All Star. Max took a big step forward in his development as a baseball player this year and has a bright future. He is also a great leader even though he is only a Sophomore.

Athletes of the Month

Tamia "T.J." Hill-Johnson, Class of 2022, continues to dominate dual meets in shot put for the girls Varsity Track and Field team. She has competed in 4 dual meets and has finished first place in shot put in each meet, as well as 3rd place in the Herb Schmidt Invitational out of 26 throwers. Recently, she broke her personal best shot put throw with a distance of 32’ 10 ½”, which has moved her into the top 10 all-time female throwers in Middletown history! Academically, she is a model student with an overall GPA of 93% and a class rank of 14/141. She recently committed to the William Peace University in North Carolina to throw shot put! Her hard work on and off the practice field is paying off!

~ Coach Adam N. Shaffer

Ryan Souders, Class of 2022, has had an excellent year so far at the plate. He is hitting .322 with 2 home runs and 21 RBIs. He has been a key part of our success this season which has helped the team qualify for a district playoff spot for the first time since 2015. Ryan is also one of our captains this year. He is a pleasure to coach and a great kid on and off the field.

We chose MAYA HERNEISEY, Class of 2022, as our student athlete of the month. Maya has cheered on the MAHS cheerleading team since her freshman year. She has served as one of the team captains this recent football and basketball season. Maya has shown tremendous progress this year as a flyer and is one of our strongest flyers on the team mastering her full down with ease. It has been an absolute pleasure having the opportunity to coach Maya these past two seasons and seeing her come out of her shell. Maya always has a "team first" approach, works hard on and off practice days and is determined to do whatever it takes to help her team. We will miss her fun spirit and wishing her the best of luck at Penn State Harrisburg!

~ Coach Alicia Shriner

JOSHUA TLUMACH has made a big impact during his first year as a varsity wrestler. Josh had the most wins on the team this year with a 17 – 17 record. Josh placed 8th at the Solanco tournament, 7th at the Penn Manor tournament, 5th at District 3 Section 2 tournament, and was one of two wrestlers to qualify for the District 3 tournament. Josh wrestled at 113 lbs most of the season but would often bump up to 120 lbs. Josh’s work ethic and love of the sport is a huge part of his success.

~ Coach Seth Decker

Junior JULIAN BRENNER flipped a switch halfway through the wrestling season. Julian came in clutch versus CD East when it came down to the final match. Julian stepped up, got a huge fall to secure the win for Middletown. Ever since then Julian went full throttle. Julian picked up 11 wins this season at 106 lbs, a number of those being falls. Julian placed 6th at the District 3 Section 2 tournament and qualified for the District 3 tournament. Julian is humble and always has a good attitude.

~ Coach Seth Decker

Leach and Claggett

TYSON LEACH
has helped the Blue Raiders Boys Basketball attain one of the top seeds in the District 3 4A tournament. Averaging 10 points per game, including 35 3-pointers made, he has helped a balanced offensive attack and is the team’s second leading scorer on the season. Tyson works extremely hard on the defensive end, accounting for 40 steals, 48 rebounds, and has taken 10 charges on the year. As a sophomore, Tyson has shown an even-keeled approach to an increasingly difficult schedule and matchups throughout a 18-3 season.

~ Coach Chris Bradford

We chose MAKAYLA CLAGGETT as our Student Athlete of the Month. Makayla is very coachable, is very determined, and works really hard. She served as one of our team captains for the last 2 years and in addition, last year she made 2nd team all stars. This year Makayla served in a dual role for the team as a shooting guard and point guard. Makayla led her team in stats across the board. She had 61 assists, 113 rebounds, and averaged 16 points per game. On the defensive end we relied on Makayla to use her quick feet and pressure defense to guard every team’s best player. As a result she racked up 70 steals and 6 blocks. Makayla’s basketball career does not stop with high school. This Fall (2022), Makayla will play for Penn State Harrisburg. Makayla has a very bright future off the courts as well. She is on the distinguished honor roll and when she goes to college her studies will eventually lead her to become a lawyer. Makayla is a good leader, very humble, and always wants to know what she can do to get better. We will miss her competitive and fun spirit, and wish her the best at the next level.

Broadie & Huber

TAJAE BROADIE, Class of 2022, has helped to lead the Blue Raiders to a 8-0 start, averaging 15.5ppg and 7.3 rpg, while shooting ~68% from the FT line. Elected as a captain by his peers, he has provided stout defense on the backend and allowed his teammates to take chances and employ a defense that has held every opponent under 50 points thus far.

Taj made the Honor Roll Q1 and currently is on track to complete the 2nd quarter on the honor roll again, an outstanding accomplishment. A quiet leader, Tajae has been a force on the court and in our locker room, with the ability to change the outcome of a game with both his words and actions.

~ Coach Chris Bradford

We chose ADDISON HUBER, Class of 2025, as our Student Athlete of the Month. As a freshman, Addie was selected 1st Team Capital Division All-Star for volleyball, and as Pennlive’s 1st Team All-Star for volleyball as well. She was the league leader in kills. On the basketball court Addie serves as the point guard for the Lady Raiders this season, and is thriving on both ends of the court. She averages 16 pts per game, a total so far of 32 assists, and is shooting an astounding field goal percentage of 40.4%. In addition she is racking up stats in rebounds, steals, blocks, and charges. Addie is also one of the league leaders in three point shots made with 25.

Addie has a bright future on the courts, but an even brighter one off. She has a contagious smile, laugh, and personality. She has a fun competitive spirit, works hard on and off the court, is unselfish, and is determined to do whatever it takes to help her team.

Faith Matter and Tate Leach

FAITH MATTER
, Class of 2022, was chosen as player of the year for the Mid-Penn Capital Division this year. She tallied 15 goals and 20 assists in our 20 games and helped us to a 12-6-2 record and district playoff appearance. Her leadership and impact though go well beyond the stat line as she is a relentless worker. She can be seen sprinting back to help on defense just as quickly as she sprints forward to get involved in the attack. And she does it all with a huge smile on her face, evidence she loves playing with her teammates and friends here at Middletown.  ~ Coach Tim Neff

TATE LEACH, Class of 2022, continues to be a staple in our program and has a tremendous 5 week run, not only on the field but off. His leadership is unmatched and his ability to get maximum potential out of his teammates is phenomenal. Tate is instrumental in leading us to the District III playoffs as a safety and quarterback. He continues to impress with his skills and work ethic. He prepares the right way and makes sure his teammates are in the right spot at all times. I think what I am most proud of Tate is the fact that his classroom success has stayed consistent throughout the entire month. His grades are very solid, even with balancing football and basketball workouts. When he is not in the classroom, or on the field, he is certainly in the gym getting ready for the next season. His gears never stop and he continues to make Middletown a better place!  ~ Coach Scott Acri

Athletes of the MonthWILL FULMER, Class of 2023, is the first Raider in the past decade to putt his way to the District level. Fulmer discovered his love for golf in his own backyard by hitting balls with his dad when he was a kid. When he entered high school he was excited to finally get to play competitively and it didn't take long for his Coach to discover that those backyard lessons were a great investment. Districts will be held on October 8 & 9. We're routing for you, Will!

MADELINE FOX, Class of 2024, has really excelled in her role as Middle Blocker on the volleyball team. In the beginning of the season, Maddie wasn’t playing very aggressively and was tipping or throwing in roll shots to play it safe so she wouldn't make an error. As the season progressed, Coach Huber challenged her to step up and be another offensive threat on the floor and she started playing a lot more aggressively. Thanks to all of her hard work, Maddie leads the team in stats for her kills/blocks on the season. She has always been one of the quietest players on the court, but you can see her starting to come into her own. That smile says it all when she turns to her team after a kill or a block.
