What I like about school is meeting new people and learning. I have participated in homework club, except for this school year. Outside of school, I attend church on Sundays. Kelten McDermott
KELTEN McDERMOTT
Daughter of Ken & Stacey McDermott

"Hi, my name is Kelten McDermott. I have attended Kunkel Elementary since Kindergarten. My two favorite subjects are reading and social studies. I like reading because it challenges my brain and takes me to places in my mind, for example, Hogwarts from “Harry Potter”. I love social studies because I can learn about people from the past and what they did. Three things that I do well at school are math, reading, and playing my trumpet. In school, I have participated in chorus, Word Masters, Continental Math League, and I play the trumpet in band. Outside of school, I participate in Irish dance, softball for LSTAA, Girl Scouts as a second year Junior, and I attend church at Seven Sorrows BVM. What I like best about school is seeing my friends and teachers. My current teacher is Mr. Guissanie and he is amazing! Also, I like riding my bike, growing plants in my garden, and spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy reading the Harry Potter books and watching the movies. I was very excited when Dr. Borrelli announced that I was selected for this achievement. My family is very proud of me for receiving an Outstanding Student of the Year award!"

JACK DORAN
Son of Joseph & Jennifer Doran

"I’m Jack Doran, a Kunkel Elementary Fifth grader. I entered Kunkel Elementary in Kindergarten with one of my favorite teachers, Mrs. Skulsky and am now in Fifth Grade with another great teacher, Miss Hollowell. My two favorite subjects in school are math and reading. I love learning new things in math and reading books is one of my favorite things to do. I can always be found reading a book as soon as I finish an assignment and normally carry an extra book in my book bag just in case I finish that one. My favorite things about school are learning new things and socializing with my friends. In school I also play the trumpet in second year band with Mrs. Kaslusky. I like how Mrs. Kaslusky always makes band fun. Outside of school I play select soccer for Olmsted and recreational baseball for Lower Swatara Majors. I enjoy playing both of these sports a lot because it gives me an opportunity to see my friends more and because I am competitive. I was proud and overjoyed when I was informed that I was selected to receive this honor. Thank you to Dr. Borrelli and my teachers for selecting me. It really put a smile on my face to be recognized."

"Hello. My name is Olivia May. I entered the Middletown Area School District when I was in Kindergarten. My family decided to go here because this was the closest school at our house. I am glad that my mom let me into this school at a young age! My two favorite subjects are reading and science! I like reading because it is mostly easy. I also like science because sometimes we do fun things! Three things I can do really well are reading, drawing, and running. I learned to draw by myself at a young age, I practiced running, and I was taught how to read hard words! I am proud of doing these three things very well! The thing I like most about school is meeting new people. I have many very wonderful and close friends! I also meet new people and be their friends! At school, I participate in Sunrays Of Love! I love this group because we get to do many fun things. We help with the garden, do fun assignments, and learn how to be kind! Outside of school I mostly ride scooters with one of my good friends! I also like watching the ducks in the creek! I feel many emotions about being selected for this honor. I feel proud of myself for being a good student for the year. Sofia Eshleman
SOFIA ESHLEMAN
Daughter of Lori Eshleman and Maria Schofield

“Hello, my name is Sofia Eshleman. I have been a student in the Middletown Area School District since kindergarten. My two favorite subjects are Math and ELA. ELA allows me to analyze work and find new meaning in it. Math is more challenging for me, but after I fully understand what we are learning, I get into a rhythm. I’m a member of the Color Guard team, led by Mrs. Chambers and Mrs. Friedrichs. I’m a good debater and love to hear other people’s point of view while arguing mine. I stay very organized and complete tasks in a timely manner, always following a schedule. I also am good at keeping up with school work and enjoy doing it. Being selected for this honor has made all the work I’ve put into this year really pay off.
