Welcome to the John C Kunkel Elementary School. Home of the Blue Raiders!

The school is located on a fourteen (14) acre site which was a part of the Samuel B. Williams, Jr. farm and which is located near the former Kunkel farm. The original plan was to build an 8-classroom school in 1962, but due to continuous growth it was necessary to begin an addition of 8 more classrooms before the original part of the building was completed. The addition, which doubled the size of the original plans, was completed in 1964, and the school was formally dedicated on December 2, 1965.

The building was named the John C. Kunkel Elementary School in honor of Congressman John C. Kunkel, who worked diligently for federal aid for the impacted areas of his congressional district, and had always been very much interested in the schools of this district. A portrait of Congressman John C. Kunkel, painted by Frederick Roscher, still hangs on the wall in the lobby area by the office.

In June 1995 a major renovation of the school began which was completed by the opening of the 1996-97 school year. This expansion added a new art and music room in the lower level of the school, a new cafeteria, multi-purpose room, library, computer lab, and LGI room, in addition to 12 new classrooms and 4 itinerant rooms.
