March 7, 2012 in News by John Brougher

MASD Librarians, Sherry Breckenmaker and Barbara Yurovich, have teamed up with the Harrisburg Senators in an effort to promote reading in our Elementary Schools. All elementary students have been challenged to read at least four books by April 12, 2012. Any elementary student meeting this goal will receive two free tickets to a Harrisburg Senators game*. This great opportunity has been made available to our students through the Harrisburg Senators “Hit the Books” reading program. Please encourage all of our elementary students to meet the goal and reap the rewards of their hard work!

REID READING STARS

October 7, 2011 in Featured News by Earl Bright

Reid Reading Stars

Reid Reading Stars is a program that encourages and promotes reading both at home and school during the months of October through May.  A Kick-Off assembly was held on Friday, October 7th to motivate students about this year’s program.  Each grade level is assigned monthly reading goals as follows:

Kindergarten/First Grade = 100 minutes

Second/Third Grades = 200 minutes

Fourth/Fifth Grades = 300 minutes

Students keep track of their reading progress with monthly reading logs.  We are continuing weekly Book Recommendations giving students the opportunity for a book talk during Friday morning announcements.  In addition, two book alerts are scheduled each month where students and teachers stop what they are doing to read for 10-15 minutes.  Each month, the class in every grade level with the highest percentage of participation will be awarded with a banner placed outside their classroom door and a special banner will be given to the “Most Improved” class.  Remember, to become a better reader, you need to READ!
