Special Education

School districts must submit a Special Education Plan every three years to PDE. The revised plan takes effect on July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2022. The plan is available for public inspection via hard copy at the MASD Administration Building and electronic copy located HERE. The Board will vote to approve the final plan at its April 16, 2019 General Business Meeting.

Special Education is planned instruction specifically designed to address the educational and related needs of children with disabilities. Children eligible for special education services receive their instruction based upon the District’s core curriculum. The IEP team documents current education abilities, areas of needs and outlines goals, accommodations/adaptations or modifications and teaching strategies, as well as other support systems that may help the student to access the general education curriculum.

In order that all children and families are served appropriately, dedicated and highly competent staff must be in place. The Middletown Area School District is proud of the dedicated special educators, support staff, related service providers, general educators and administrators who support all students with disabilities.

The Special Education Department provides support services in the following areas:

•  Autistic Support
•  Emotional Support
•  Learning Support
•  Life Skills Support
•  Multiple Disabilities Support
•  Occupational Therapy
•  Physical Therapy
•  Speech & Language Support
