Jump Rope For Heart

On Friday, February 24, 2012 Kunkel Elementary School is holding its annual Jump Rope for Heart Event. A snow day date (for a school cancellation or 1 or 2 hour delay) is set for Monday, February 27, 2012 if necessary. Time has been set aside for each grade to come into the gym that day for the special jump rope event including challenges, games, races, music and lots of heart healthy fun! While encouraging community service, Jump Rope for Heart is also an educational program for our students. Messages of a healthy diet and regular physical activity, along with heart health information are reinforced during our jump rope unit in Physical Education Classes. Fund raising is critical to the development of lifesaving research. I have set our Kunkel fundraising goal at $11,100 and with everyone’s help, I know we can reach that goal. We actually raised more than $11,000 in the 2011 school year at Kunkel.
Unfortunately, heart disease and stroke are the #1 and #3 killers in America today. They account for almost as many deaths as all other causes combined. Research funded by the American Heart Association in the past was directly responsible for the development of CPR, to name just one of the major and more visible achievements impacting millions of Americans.
Family and friends are welcome to support your child’s volunteer efforts by making contributions. Your child will also have the ability to request credit card donations online through the American Heart Association website with your permission. Just log onto www.heart.org/jump from your computer to find out how this can be done.
Any checks for donations should be made payable to the American Heart Association. As a 501© status non-profit organization, donations are tax deductible. All donations should be returned to school on or before February 24, 2012, so that the thank-you gifts can be ordered and distributed to students before the end of the school year.
If your employer has a matching gift program, please indicate the matched amounts on the sponsor form of the collection envelope.
* Also, please make sure to sign the permission slip attached to the collection envelope stating that your child can participate in the jump rope activities held during school on February 24, 2012. Your son/daughter may jump even if he/she does not participate in the fund raising efforts. Signed permission slips must be returned to your child’s classroom teacher in order for your son/daughter to participate on Jump Rope for Heart Day. If a permission slip is not signed and returned, your son/daughter will not be allowed to join in the activities that day and will have to sit out and watch everyone else in their grade level taking part in the fun.
