Today we took a look at how a nuclear powerplant works. We kept it rather basic and simple but will get into more depth at a later date. I just wanted you to be a bit familiar with some of the terminology when viewing the TMI video sections.
Nuclear Fission-Fusion – We are focusing on the breakdown of U235 using nuclear fission.
Nuclear Disasters Webhunt – DUE MONDAY 5/20/13
Below you will find the nuclear disasters webhunt. This is to be started upon completion of the Science Benchmark. The large majority of you will be completed with the benchmark on Weds, so this means that you will have the whole period on Thursday to work on this web hunt. Below is a copy of the sheet and a list of resource websites.

Wednesdays and Thursday 5/15 and 5/16 – Science Benchmark
We will be in room 119 on Wednesday and Thursday for Science Benchmarks!
After you are done you have an assignment! Nuclear Disaster Webhunt!
Carbon 14 Half Life – Monday and Tuesday 5/13 and 5/14
We will be working on the C-14 lab which will provide the information required to complete the C-14 “Age Calculating” graph. Below is the graph, a sample of what yours should resemble (not exact), and the lab data sheet. Also provided is a series of questions which can be answered using your newly constructed graph.

Radioactive Half-Life (Focus C-14) Friday 5/9/13
Today we will be taking a look at radioactive half-lives with a focus primarily on C-14
Use the following PowerPoint to fill in the notesheet if you were absent.
Alpha Particles – Beta Particles – Gamma Rays Thursday 5/9/13
Today we took a look at the types of radioactivity that is released when the nucleus begins to decay. The following notesheet was distributed. If you were absent make sure that you refer to the note key below.
Radioactivity – Wednesday 5/8/13
Today we read through pages 536-540 in the book and completed the following notesheet
