MASD Welcomes New Technology Director

Steiner.Jack BANN

Educator. Percussionist. Handy-man. Dad. Sharp-dresser. And lover of the ever-changing world of technology. These are just some of the mysteries behind the newest computer geek at MASD.

Jack Steiner and his wife Sarah live in York County with their two children, four year old Olyvia and 2 year old Jack. In addition to his passion for educational technology, Steiner brings experiences in music, special education, alternative education, and bilingual education to Middletown’s technology department. But digital learning is his main wheelhouse.

Steiner is looking forward to being invested in both the infrastructure and the educational side of technology. “I love the challenge of the constantly changing world of technology,” says Steiner. “How technology can be used to enhance education is endless: it makes content easily accessible to both teachers and students; it allows teachers to provide immediate feedback; it can enhance curriculum by providing engaging lessons; it allows for quicker instruction; and it fosters student-centered learning which prepares students for their post-high education and/or careers.”

At first glance, Steiner has been impressed with the infrastructure of the current technology systems within the District, and he is also encouraged by the skills and capabilities of his technology staff. This will enable him to hit the ground running. “We don’t want to stay stagnant. We want to be in that innovator status, not just be satisfied with the status quo. We need to have discussions about 21st century learning and see more buy-in to the STEAM approach.”

Steiner is looking forward to being a presence in classrooms, meeting teachers and hearing their needs, and supporting his team so they can excel in their strengths. But he’s also excited to get his hands dirty and crawl through the crevices of District buildings to discover the location of every cable. Which could be an interesting sight if he’s wearing a fancy suit and tie.
