MASD News POST BANN2This communication is to advise you of a situation that occurred at Middletown Area Middle School today. As PSSA testing concluded, a student informed a staff member that the student heard from others that a certain student had brought a gun to school today. The administration searched the student and locker, and an airsoft pistol was recovered from the student’s backpack in the locker. Although the airsoft pistol did not contain any ammunition, possession of a weapon or any replica of a weapon on school property is a violation of Board Policy #218.1. Local law enforcement has been notified and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken.

The administration commends the student who came forward so that the situation could be immediately investigated. Through the investigation the administration learned that the student who brought the airsoft pistol to school had shown it to several students upon arrival this morning, but none of those students reported it to a staff member. Please take this opportunity to remind your children of the importance of “when you see something, say something.” If students are not comfortable reporting concerns directly to a staff member, they are encouraged to submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Something™ system.
