PA Secretary of Agriculture Visits Kunkel

Sec of Ag at Kunk BANN

Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week, which is celebrated March 18-22, helps students learn about agriculture by introducing them to members of the agricultural community and participating in classroom readings and interactive activities. First and second grade students at four elementary schools across the mid-state are being visited by Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and deputy secretaries. One of the four schools that was selected for the Secretary’s visit was our very own Kunkel Elementary!

On Monday, March 18, 2019, Secretary Redding visited Mrs. Lori D’Amour’s 2nd grade classroom to read the storybook “Right This Very Minute” by Lisl H. Detlefsen and Renee Kurilla. The story describes the connection between what we eat and where it comes from and explains that “right this very minute” there is a farmer in PA actively working at making our food. Following the story, students participated in an activity that challenged them to identify the source of the foods they eat. Secretary Redding donated the storybook to Mrs. D’Amour’s classroom library.

Present at the Secretary’s visit were TV stations FOX43 and ABC27. Barring any other breaking news this evening, FOX plans to air the story at 4pm and ABC plans to air the story at 7pm and 10pm, with possible airings also at 5pm and 6pm.
