ABC27 introduces “MATES”

When ABC27 News saw the article in the Press and Journal by reporter Laura Hayes about a new program to be launched at MASD, the TV station was intrigued. On Sunday, July 8, 2018, ABC27 reporter Priscilla Liguori met several MASD Administrators at Fink Elementary School to learn about this unique program. Dr. Lori A. Suski, Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Marie Drazenovich, Fink Elementary Principal and Mrs. Krystal Palmer, Special Education Director, shared with Ms. Liguori about Middletown Area Therapeutic Elementary Support which will be known as “MATES.” Elementary students who have experienced trauma during their young lives will receive their education in a smaller setting with special resources to assist them through their challenging life situations. The District currently has 20 students enrolled in MATES with room for more to be added throughout the year if needed.

ABC27 aired this special interest feature on Sunday evening, July 8 and Monday morning, July 9. It can be viewed HERE. Since the airing of the story, FOX43 News has also contacted the District to inquire about MATES.

More information about MATES can be found on the MATES webpage under “Student Services” located HERE.
