2018 Retirees BANN

The following professional staff announced their retirements at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.
Their years of service total over 184 years! The influence of these staff members, both in and outside of the classroom, is immeasurable.
MASD congratulates each of the retirees and wishes them a restful and well-deserved retirement.

Chaffinch

Ms. Michal Beth Chaffinch

Ms. Chaffinch was hired at Middletown Area School District in 2003. She worked as a health and physical education teacher in the elementary and middle schools from 2003 to 2011, and as a middle school guidance counselor from 2011 until the time of her retirement. She holds an undergraduate degree from Messiah College, where she played softball. She holds a Master’s Degree from Shippensburg University. During her tenure at Middletown, Ms. Chaffinch served as the junior high field hockey coach, freshman girls’ basketball coach, and assistant JV softball coach. Ms. Chaffinch has also been an advisor to the Peer Helper Program.

Feeser

Mrs. Tammy Feeser

Mrs. Feeser was hired at Middletown Area School District in 2000.  She has worked as a learning support and emotional support teacher at Feaser Middle School and Middletown Area Middle School, a learning support teacher at Kunkel Elementary School, and a life skills support teacher at Middletown Area High School.  Prior to her employment at Middletown, Mrs. Feeser worked as an Emotional Support teacher in the Pinnacle Health Behavioral Sciences Program.  She also taught in Central Dauphin School District, Lower Dauphin School District, Derry Township School District, and at the Capital Area Intermediate Unit.  Mrs. Feeser holds an undergraduate degree from Millersville University and a Master’s Degree from Wilkes University.  Mrs. Feeser served as the chair of the special education department at the high school and as a class advisor.

Hurst

Ms. Charlene Hurst

Ms. Charlene Hurst was hired at Middletown Area School District in December of 1986. She worked as a learning support and emotional support teacher at Middletown Area High School. Ms. Hurst received her undergraduate degree from Wilkes University, where she played basketball. She holds a Master’s Degree from Bloomsburg University. During her tenure at Middletown, Ms. Hurst served as a class advisor, mentor teacher, and chair of the Special Education Department. Ms. Hurst also made significant contributions to athletics over the course of her career, serving as the ninth grade girls’ basketball coach, junior high girls’ basketball coach, JV softball coach, and assistant varsity softball coach.

Miller

Ms. Lynn Miller

Ms. Miller was hired at Middletown Area School District in 1984. She worked as a business education teacher at Middletown Area High School. Ms. Miller received her undergraduate degree from Shippensburg University, where she played tennis. During her career at Middletown, she served as the chair of the Business Department, a PRIDE Club advisor, advisor to Future Business Leaders of America, and a mentor teacher. Ms. Miller coaches the varsity boys’ and girls’ tennis teams, and we are delighted that she plans to continue her coaching role after her retirement from teaching.

Schlicher

Mr. Erich Schlicher

Mr. Schlicher was hired at Middletown Area School District in 1983. During his tenure at Middletown, Mr. Schlicher taught instrumental, vocal, and general music at Feaser Middle School and Middletown Area Middle School. Prior to working at Middletown, Mr. Schlicher taught at Pottstown and Perkiomen Valley School Districts. He holds an undergraduate degree from Lebanon Valley College. Mr. Schicher has been active in music and theater programs, serving in the following roles during his tenure at Middletown: middle school band director, music department chair, percussion instructor for high school band, middle school choral director, assistant marching band director of high school band, high school band chaperone and equipment manager, and middle school stage manager. Additionally, he has served as a mentor teacher and student council advisor. Mr. Schlicher was the Middletown Area School District Teacher of the Year for the 2007-2008 school year.

Skees

Mr. Llewellyn Skees

Mr. Skees was hired at Middletown Area School District in 1982. He worked as a social studies teacher in Middletown Area Middle School and Middletown Area High School. He holds an undergraduate degree from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where he participated in varsity track and wrestling. Prior to his employment at Middletown, Mr. Skees taught at Cameron County High School. Mr. Skees has been highly involved in coaching during his tenure at Middletown, having served in the following coaching roles: varsity track and field head coach, varsity cross country head coach, middle school track and field assistant coach, middle school/junior high track and field head coach, freshman football head coach, varsity football assistant coach, and varsity wrestling head coach. In addition to his coaching positions, Mr. Skees served as the social studies department chair at both the middle and high schools, an advisor to the Middletown Area Middle School Youth and Government Advisor, class advisor at the high school, and mentor teacher.

Zupanovic

Mr. Michael Zupanovic

Mr. Zupanovic, affectionately know as “Mr. Z” to his students, was hired at Middletown Area School District in 1990. Prior to his employment at Middletown, Mr. Zupanovic worked at Glen Mills Schools, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Schools, and Harrisburg Area School District. Mr. Zupanovic worked at Feaser Middle School and Middletown Area Middle School. During his employment at Middletown, he has been a learning support and English/Language Arts teacher. Mr. Zupanovic holds an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and a Master’s Degree from Wilkes University. He served as a mentor teacher and Head Teacher at Feaser Middle School. Mr. Zupanovic is a teacher of teachers, having instructed numerous graduate level courses in education, and he frequently presented professional development sessions to his peers. Mr. Zupanovic was the Middletown Teacher of the Year for the 1995-1996 school year.
