During the 2011-2012 school year many of our elementary teachers have been accepted into the MASD GetSMART! initiative and will be receiving a SMART Board in their classroom. A SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard that allows teachers and students to interact with content by simply using their finger or a digital pen. One of the main goals of the MASD GetSMART! initiative is to bring more collaboration and interactivity into the classroom.
Each of the participating teachers will receive training over the summer that not only shows them how to use the SMART Board, but shows them how to build interactive lessons using the SMART Notebook software. Teachers will also learn how to use the SMART Exchange to find lessons that have created by other teachers saving them valuable time. Teachers will be encouraged to also contribute to the SMART Exchange as the create their own distinct content and lessons. The great thing about the SMART Board and SMART Notebook software is that it can be used for any subject area, whether it be math, reading, or music.
